Who this is for

You're playing with your kids while running endless to do-lists through your mind. You lie down at night, but you can't seem to fully relax. What's happening is that your nervous system has been switched on for so long that it has forgotten how to switch off. Not because anything is wrong with you, but because a body under chronic load makes physiological adaptations that take time and specific support to reverse. It is such a privilege to have a child calling you a hundred times a day because you're the world to them, but it's also a lot for one body to continuously respond to. The Calm Mother is formulated to support you in these moments.

If you recognise yourself in this, this blend was made for you.

Ingredients

[All organic and local] Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna, herba), Linden (Tilia cordata, herba), Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis, herba), Rose (Rosa damascena, flos) extracted in Organic Alcohol (GF) and Distilled Water.
Hawthorn

Traditionally used to support the cardiovascular system, Hawthorn has become one of the most extensively researched herbs for heart health.

Linden

Linden tea was traditionally given to sleepless children and exhausted mothers. Modern research is increasingly exploring how it supports the body's natural stress response.

Lemon Balm

Extensively researched in its impact on the nervous system. A cornerstone in traditional herbalism for supporting relaxation.

Rose

Included in traditional calming blends for generations to support the mind in addition to the body. Brings balance and restoration.

How to use it

Take 2–3ml directly under the tongue or in a small glass of tea or water. Hold 30 seconds before swallowing for the fastest effect. Another option would be to add to your water bottle and drink throughout the day, although this will depend on your taste experience.

Consistency matters more than timing. The effect of herbs usually lasts for 3-4 hours. These plants work best as daily nourishment rather than acute intervention.

On alcohol content, especially for the breastfeeding mothers: a single dose contains less alcohol than a ripe banana. To be precise — 1/8th of a teaspoon at 70% alcohol. This is for the highest extraction ratio across all Rooted Mothers tinctures.

Contra indications

Pregnancy. None of the herbs in this blend carry documented contraindications for pregnancy. However, herbal preparations as a category have not been formally studied in pregnant women, and the precautionary principle applies. If you are pregnant, please discuss use with your midwife or healthcare provider before taking any herbal preparation.

Heart medication. One case report from 1999 suggested a possible interaction between motherwort and spironolactone. The evidence is limited and contested — the dosage was unknown and other herbs were involved. If you are taking medication for a heart condition, please discuss with your healthcare provider before use.

If you are taking pharmaceutical medication, I recommend a conversation with your healthcare provider before introducing any new herbal preparation. I also answer every message directly — reach me on Instagram or by email.

Other things that support Calm

Sleep

Go to bed before 23:00

Cortisol reaches its lowest point in the early hours of the night. Missing this window keeps the stress hormone elevated longer than it needs to be.

Morning light

Get outside early morning, preferably within 30 minutes after waking.

Just a few minutes is enough already. The morning light anchors your cortisol rhythm to the right time of day, which determines how well it drops by evening.

Cold water on your wrists

The dive reflex slows your heart rate within seconds

Cold water on your face or wrists triggers the dive reflex. This is a rapid parasympathetic response that slows heart rate within seconds. It's not a solution for chronic dysregulation, but a useful immediate tool.

Reduce your decision load

Plan tomorrow's decisions tonight

Take a few minutes each night to decide what you will eat the next day and what the kids will wear, so your prefrontal cortex can genuinely rest. Removing decisions from the evening removes one of the most common reasons the nervous system stays switched on.
